Data science fica na interseção entre a programação de computadores e a estatística. Na área geográfica, data science tem como ponto de partida os Sistemas de Informação Geográfica e Sensoriamento Remoto como fontes de dados para a realização de análises espaço-temporais, além da construção de modelos que auxiliem na compreensão do ambiente. Esta palestra faz uma breve explicação do que é data science e apresenta exemplos usando ferramentas e dados livres no contexto dos dados geográficos.
Exploratory analysis of recurrent deforestation warnings in the Brazilian amazon

Because of the role of tropical forests in the Earth System, it is imperative to investigate forest degradation. Unlike slash cut, forest degradation is harder to spot by satellites, and its effects in the rain forest remain underestimated. An important part of Amazon degradation is induced by fire; however, the successive use of fire over the same area has often been overlooked. In this presentation, Alber Sanchez introduces it’s team’s efforts to answer this question using the Brazilian near real-time deforestation detection system (DETER). Although DETER was not designed for this kind of study, they found some answers in its data from 2016 to 2021.
Análise Exploratória dos Alertas de Desmatamento Recorrente na Amazônia Brasileira

Devido ao papel das florestas tropicais no sistema terrestre, é imperativo investigar a degradação florestal. Ao contrário do corte da raso, a degradação da floresta é mais difícil de identificar pelos satélites, e seus efeitos na floresta tropical permanecem subestimados. Uma parte importante da degradação na Amazônia é induzida pelo fogo; No entanto, o uso sucessivo do fogo na mesma área tem sido frequentemente negligenciado. Nesta apresentação, Alber Sanchez apresenta os esforços da equipe para responder a essa pergunta usando dados do Sistema Brasileiro de Detecção de Desmatamento em Tempo Real (DETER). Embora DETER não tenha sido projetado para esse tipo de estudo, eles encontraram algumas respostas em seus dados de 2016 a 2021.
